
SURF CITY — Despite life-saving efforts, a swimmer has perished in Surf City.
The city received reports of a distressed swimmer around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
A bystander pulled the swimmer, an adult male, out of the water and began performing CPR. Soon after, emergency personnel arrived at the scene and continued life-saving efforts while waiting for the arrival of EMS.
The Surf City Fire Department, Surf City Police and Pender County Emergency Services all responded but were unable to revive the victim, whose name will not be made public until his family can be notified
The incident is an ongoing investigation; the cause of the swimmer’s distress remains unknown.
