KURE BEACH — The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is hosting the annual Race for the Planet at Battle Acre Park and will follow up the run with a celebration for the aquarium’s 50th anniversary.
The 5k run will take place Sunday, April 19 at 8 a.m. and makes a path to the Fort Fisher historic area, running along the Atlantic Ocean before returning to Battle Acre Park. Participants will also be able to participate in a one-mile “fun run.”
“Our race brings together runners of all levels and ages, teams, families and friend’s groups who are inspired to get moving for themselves and for the planet,” NCAFF director Joanna Zazzali said. “We are excited to welcome everyone for a special race this year in honor of our 50 years of inspiring wonder.”
The celebration following the race will include putt-putt golf, story time with Mr. Scooter, a children’s librarian, rapper and storyteller, carnival games and food trucks. The event is open to the community.
Proceeds from the race will go to the NCAFF through the NC Aquarium Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the North Carolina Aquariums.
Community members interested in participating can sign up here.
