Man arrested after firing gun in Leland neighborhood

On Wednesday night, June 25, Leland Police arrested a man after responding to reports of gunfire in the Mallory Creek neighborhood.

LELAND — On Wednesday night, June 25, Leland Police arrested a man after responding to reports of gunfire in the Mallory Creek neighborhood.

Police were called to the area off Southern Magnolia Drive just after 10 p.m. While investigating the scene, officers heard more shots and traced them to a residence on Southern Magnolia Drive. Leland resident Jacob Merrill Thomas, 32, was found at the home and arrested without incident.

He faces charges of discharging a firearm within Leland town limits and is being held at the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $1,000 secured bond. Thomas’ first appearance in court will be today, June 26, at 2 p.m. in the Brunswick County Courthouse, courtroom one. 

No injuries or property damage were reported. The investigation is still ongoing.
