WILMINGTON — Various neighborhoods will undergo smoke-testing by Cape Fear Public Utility Authority starting Saturday and taking place several days.
The method is used to find leaks and breaks in sewer mains and takes place by adding nontoxic smoke-filled air to enter the system. If smoke comes up through the manholes, then CFPUA crews can investigate what needs repair.
Crews will conduct smoke-testing May 17 in the Waterford neighborhood in Myrtle Grove.
Then starting Monday, May 19, crews move to Pine Hollow Drive, Echo East, Johnson Farms, Hidden Valley, Southwold Drive, and Pine Valley Drive. Testing will continue for approximately two weeks, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Customers in impacted areas will be notified by CFPUA as well and the smoke-testing does not impact services to customers’ sewer systems or leave residue behind.
