WILMINGTON — The Junior League of Wilmington has announced the 2024 Community Grant Program recipients, awarding a $2,300 grant to three local nonprofit organizations.

The recipients are:

  • Paws Place, a nonprofit, no-kill shelter dedicated to dog rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption. Paws Place will use funding to treat rescue dogs with heart worm infections. They see approximately 45 cases per year, and the cost of treatment is considerable.
  • The Maternity Housing Program of Coastal Horizons, which serves unhoused and runaway pregnant and parenting youth and their dependent children. They provide direct outreach services, access to safe and stable housing, case management, and life skills to promote long-term economic independence for young parents. The funding will be used to support program operations.
  • NSEA Swim, a competitive swim team in Wilmington offering free swim lessons to all ages. They aim to promote diversity and inclusion in the sport of swimming. The NSEA Swim Free Learn to Swim program was established to ensure that every child, regardless of their background or financial situation, has the opportunity to learn to swim. Funding will bolster this initiative, covering essential expenses such as instructor and lifeguard free. This grant will enable them to support 54 students.
