BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A Southport hospital has been awarded a grant from Louis Bacon’s Orton Foundation.

$25,000 was given to Dosher Memorial Hospital, to be used to advance the hospital’s emergency department. Transport stretchers, IV poles, and bedside procedure stands will be purchased with the grant.

The emergency department of Dosher Memorial Hospital treats more than 13,000 area patients yearly. New equipment is crucial in ensuring efficient emergency care for area Brunswick County residents.

The hospital has been granted up to $270,000 over the years from the Orton Foundation for enhanced medical equipment. The Orton Foundation is a North Carolina-based affiliate of The Louis Bacon Moore Charitable Foundation. LBMCF is dedicated to environmental stewardship and community support in various locations both in and out of the country.

“As a leading provider of healthcare to residents across Brunswick County, Dosher Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department is critical to our community,” Anne Coley, director of Orton Foundation, said in a press release.
