Nominations open for NH County’s equity awards

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The county is looking for recipients to consider in its third-annual recognition of those that continue to pursue inclusivity among New Hanover residents.

The Equity Awards will be held August 11, as hosted by the New Hanover County Office of Diversity and Equity and the Carousel Center. The awards celebrate individual outreach that increases equity and diversity throughout the community.

Nominations are open through July 10 here and include seven categories: youth (12-18 years old), nonprofit, business, health, education, faith-based and community.

“Over the last two years, we’ve been able to recognize a total of 21 individuals in our community who have worked tirelessly to advance the ideals of diversity, equity and inclusion for all,” NHC’s chief diversity and equity officer, Linda Thompson, said in a release. “Each year, the nominations we receive provide so much insight into the positive changes going on to make this a place where everyone has equal opportunity and feels welcome.”

The awards gala is slated for 6 p.m. at the Wilmington Convention Center (10 Convention Center Drive). Registration for those interested in attending the gala will open on July 5.
