TOPSAIL BEACH — In celebration of the Year of the Trail, Pender County will host a Top Secret Hike next month.
On March 11 at 11 a.m., free 1-mile family-friendly hikes will be offered from the Missiles and More Museum in Topsail Beach. Hosted by the Historical Society of Topsail Island, the museum and Pender County Tourism, hikes will be offered every 30 minutes with the last leaving the museum at 2 p.m.
According to Missiles and More Museum director Janine Stidley, the entire path is paved, which makes the Top Secret Hike wheelchair- and stroller-accessible.
Historic stops along the trail will include Operation Bumblebee, the top-secret mission that developed guided rocket and missile technology.
The hike is the third in a series of monthly family-friendly hikes being offered in the county. Throughout the year, Pender County Tourism and partners will present various trails. The next one, Pirates Treasure Hunt Hike, will be April 29 at Soundside Park at 9 a.m.
