BRUNSWICK COUNTY — The sheriff’s office made an unexpected Christmas Eve rescue, helping return a family pet to the safety and warmth of home.
As temperatures dropped below freezing during the Christmas holiday, a German Shepherd escaped from his home and jumped into a neighbor’s pool. The dog, named “NASA,” was submerged in the cold water for roughly 10 or 15 minutes, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office reports, as the neighboring home owner attempted to rescue the dog from the water.
The sheriff’s office noted the dog initially was growling and acting aggressive toward the neighbor. As two BCSO deputies arrived on the scene, they were able to save the dog and calm him as he was warmed. The canine was almost experiencing hypothermia, according to a release from the sheriffs office.
NASA was safely returned to his humans.
