PENDER COUNTY — A man charged with several felonies involving child sex abuse will make an appearance in a Pender County court Thursday.
Chad Everette Sholar, 39, was arrested Dec. 14 at his residence in Rose Hill, North Carolina, the Pender County Sheriff’s Office has released. The office’s special victims unit started an investigation into Sholar after it received allegations he abused a 6-year-old.
Sholar has been charged with rape of a child by an adult, sex offense of a child by an adult, first-degree statutory rape and first-degree statutory sex offense. Additional criminal charges are expected, the sheriff’s office noted.
The sheriff’s office utilized the help of several agencies and resources as part of the investigation, including staff members with The Carousel Center, a child advocacy center in Wilmington.
Sholar is being held under a $1 million secured bond at the Pender County Jail.
