UPDATE: The advisory was lifted Saturday morning.
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — has issued an emergency boil water advisory for a portion of the Kings Grant community, effective immediately.
Crews are repairing a leaking water main in the area. About 65 customers at the following addresses are impacted: all of Jamey Court, all of Dotson Court, the 4400 block of Noland Drive, and 1114 through 1218 Grathwol Drive.
Customers may have issues with water pressure during the repair, and low pressure in the water distribution system increases the possibility of back siphonage and introduction of bacteria.
The utility company advises customers to boil their water for one minute, then allow it to cool prior to consumption. They also may use another water source such as bottled water.
Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, fruit and vegetable washing, pet consumption and the preparation of baby formula. CFPUA said customers do not need to boil water for showering or bathing.
The authority lab staff is required to test the water and ensure it is safe to drink before lifting the advisory.
