Connors has nearly three decades of experience in public libraries. Connors is originally from Charlotte. She holds an undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University and a master of library and information studies from UNC Greensboro. She is coming to New Hanover from Austin, Texas, where she served as assistant director of public services for the city’s library system.

Prior to moving to Texas Connors worked in several North Carolina public library systems: Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Iredell, Union and Cabarrus. She served as director in Cabarrus County and acting director in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. In 2012 she was named North Carolina Public Library Director of the Year.

“I am honored to have this opportunity to oversee one of the best public library systems in the state and work with the library’s dedicated and talented staff,” Conners said. “I have long admired the impact that New Hanover County Public Library has made on this community, and I look forward to continuing the library’s great programs and services while also finding new and exciting ways to engage our community.”

Owens has served as director since 2019, but worked for the library system for 22 years prior.
