ARTfall exhibition starts next week, over a hundred pieces featured

WILMINGTON — The seventh annual ARTfall event, a juried exhibition and sale featuring the work of emerging and established artists, will open Sept. 16. and run through Sept. 24. 

This year’s event will display 129 2D and 3D pieces from 63 artists. Their artwork will be available for viewing and purchase from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hannah Block Historic USO Building. 

The public is invited to attend a reception honoring the award-winning artists on Sept. 15, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place, along with Honorable Mention and People’s Choice, with cash prizes totaling $525. Refreshments from Apple Annie’s Bake Shop, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Burney’s Sweets and others will be provided. Wilmington based musician El Jaye Johnson will provide the entertainment with his dynamic One-Man-Band show. 

The event is part of the American Craft Walk Wilmington, a celebration of art and handmade crafts culminating in a downtown walk on Saturday Sept. 17.

ARTfall will be juried by award-winning artist Madison Creech, art and art history professor at UNC Wilmington. Creech also co-runs Fried Fruit Art Gallery in Wilmington’s Cargo District. She holds an MFA in fibers from Arizona State University and a BFA and BS in textile, merchandising, and fashion design from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
