Pender County — As Covid cases begin to rise again and a new variant emerges, the Pender County Health Department is offering free at-home tests, which staff states “plays an important role in helping to reduce the spread of Covid-19.”
With two locations for pick up — Pender County Health Department, 803 S. Walker St. in Burgaw and the Hampstead Annex, 15060 N.C. Hwy. 17 in Hampstead — test kits are available free of charge with a limit of four per person.
The locations are open for test pick-up Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., while supplies last.
The Pender County Health Department advises using an at-home kit when:
- a person experiences Covid-19 symptoms
- an individual was exposed to someone with Covid-19
- before going to an indoor event or gathering
If an at-home test comes back positive, the CDC recommends reporting it to a local health care provider or the local health department.
Households may also order up to eight test kits online.
