Over 350 grams of cocaine confiscated in traffic stop, arrests made

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The sheriff’s office arrested two people July 12th after concluding an investigation during a traffic stop near the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge.

Law enforcement received a tip that Antwan Lendell Holmes was transporting large amounts of cocaine from Atlanta, Georgia, to the area. When officers stopped the vehicle, the driver was identified as Lamar Wheeler and the front seat passenger as Holmes.

A search of the vehicle led detectives to finding approximately 365 grams of cocaine and marijuana in Holmes and Wheeler’s possession.

Wheeler attempted to flee the scene and struck a sheriff’s office vehicle, but no one was injured at the scene.

Holmes is being held under a $1.5 million bond and is facing 10 charges:

  • Trafficking in cocaine by manufacturing
  • Conspire to traffic in cocaine
  • PWIMSD cocaine
  • Manufacture cocaine
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of marijuana up to ½ ounce
  • Possession of marijuana paraphernalia
  • Resisting a public officer

A validated gang member, Wheeler is also being held on a $1.5 million bond and faces 16 charges.

  • Conspire to traffic in cocaine
  • PWIMSD cocaine
  • Manufacture cocaine
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

  • Felony maintain a vehicle for controlled substance
  • Assault with a deadly weapon on law enforcement
  • Resisting a public officer
  • Trafficking narcotics on three prior occasions
