PENDER COUNTY — Pender County Schools hired a familiar face to take over as chief officer of auxiliary services. Michael Taylor, principal at Heide Trask High School was approved Thursday for the position by the Pender County Board of Education.
Effective Aug. 1, Taylor will take over for Darren LaFon who is retiring at the end of July after more than 30 years of service with Pender County Schools.
Taylor has served as principal of Heide Trask since July 2018 and was part of the Johnston County school system prior for 12 years. He was the district’s executive director of transportation and growth planning, served as director of facilities management and held other positions during his tenure.
“We’re excited to have Michael on board,” PCS Superintendent Dr. Steven Hill said. “To have someone who you have previously worked with fill a vital role in the district brings a lot of comfort. Those who know Michael understand the work ethic he brings to this new position — he’s detail oriented and will hit the ground running.”
A United States Marine, Taylor holds a masters of school administration from East Carolina University and attended Appalachian State University where he earned his undergraduate degree in history.
