WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department have identified a 20-year-old who was shot on Saturday evening on the southside of Wilmington.

The victim was Jakai Dekine, according to a release.

Officers responded around 11 p.m. on June 25 to a ShotSpotter notification in the 1500 block of South 11th Street near Greenfield Street. As law enforcement arrived on the scene, they found a “20-year-old male, lying face down between two vehicles,” the release noted.

The police began CPR until EMS arrived; however, Dekine succumbed to his injuries.

The police are investigating the case and ask if anyone has information to contact the Wilmington Police Department at 910-343-3609. Anonymous tips can also be made by messaging 847411 using the keyword “WPDNC” — add a space, and type the information. Or use the Wilmington NC PD app.
