WILMINGTON — Tonight is the deadline to submit a film to the 28th annual Cucalorus Film Festival taking place this November.
The festival accepts features and shorts, either narrative or documentary. Films must have been completed in the last two years and premiere in Wilmington to qualify.
More than 120 independent films are shown from all over the world at the non-competitive festival. Filmmakers, activists, performers and community leaders gather in downtown Wilmington — Thalian Hall and Jengo’s Playhouse are major venues — for screenings and events.
Along with its film selections, Cucalorus’ programs focus on “social justice, dance on camera, emerging voices, southern stories, horror and the bizarre.”
Submitters will be notified of their selection on September 15, with the festival to take place November 16 through 20.
Today is also the final day to apply for financial assistance from the Filmed in NC Fund. Any North Carolina-based filmmakers are eligible to apply. Awards range from $500 to $3,000 per project.
