CAROLINA BEACH — Officials on Pleasure Island announced a 33-year-old male died around noon Saturday after beachgoers pulled him from the water.

A news release from the Carolina Beach Police Department noted officers, the Carolina Beach Fire Department and Novant Health-NHRMC EMS were dispatched to the beach access at Sandfiddler Lane. They received a call that someone was not breathing after people on the shore retrieved him from the ocean.

Despite attempted life-saving measures, Ricky Lee Hyde passed away at the scene. Officials won’t know the official cause of death until an autopsy is completed by the NC Medical Examiner’s office.

“No suspicious circumstances were identified by investigators on scene,” a release stated.
