Rocky Point woman charged in connection to infant’s death

PENDER COUNTY — A Rocky Point woman was charged this week with the first-degree murder of her 7-month-old infant.

Lauren Emilie McCary, of Rocky Point, is currently in the Pender County Jail without bond.

In response to a 911 call, Pender County Sheriff’s Office deputies and medical personnel were dispatched to McCary’s home May 4 in regards to her son being found unresponsive, according to a news release. The child was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and died the following morning.

Deputies and Special Victims Unit detectives launched a death investigation on the scene, which led to the criminal charges. It is continuing to investigate.
