UNCW accepting nominations for Athletic Hall of Fame

WILMINGTON —Nominations are open for the UNCW Athletic Hall of Fame through June 17, ahead of the 14th induction in spring 2023.

The hall recognizes former student-athletes, coaches and administrators, and longtime contributors. Since 1998, 60 individuals have been honored. Former coach and department founder William J. “Bill” Brooks was the inaugural inductee.

“The Class of 2020 featured swimming and diving program founder Coach Dave Allen, longtime supporter Jim Ballantine, men’s basketball icon Brett Blizzard and women’s basketball standout Sharon McDowell,” according to the university.

Student-athletes must have left the college in good academic standing, and a teacher-coach or administrator must have held their position for at least five years.

Nomination forms are available on UNCWsports.com or at the Athletic Communications Office in the Nixon Annex adjacent to Trask Coliseum. They should be sent to Joe Browning, Chairman, UNCW Athletic Hall of Fame, UNCW, 601 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC, 28403.
