WILMINGTON — Wilmington’s only Target location is slated for an expansion.

Target Corporation submitted construction plans to the city to expand its store on New Centre Drive by about 23,000 square feet. The existing building is 124,122 square feet. Part of the addition is near the entrance and the other is closer to Ringo Drive, near the grocery section.

“Target is continuously investing in our stores to enhance the guest experience, which includes updates to our stores that make shopping easier, safer and more inspiring for our guests,” a Target spokesperson said. “Those plans include the Wilmington store.”

Target declined to share further details until construction is underway.

Kimley-Horn and Associates in Raleigh are the engineers on the project.
