WILMINGTON — Local nonprofit Kids Making It received a grant to help support for their Introduction to Woodworking program.
Courtesy of the Landfall Foundation, over $7,000 in funding will benefit outreach to kids in Wilmington’s public housing communities: Houston Moore, Hillcrest, and Creekwood. The program works with kids 7-12 years old.
Kids Making It has provides access to tools and materials to customize projects students work on, including laser engravers.
“Over the next couple of months, the foundation’s funding will allow us to continue offering these outreach classes, and we can’t wait to see what the kids build and create,” new executive director Kevin Blackburn said in a press release.
Kids Making It is a nonprofit organization that teaches valuable vocational, entrepreneurial and life skills to at-risk, low income and disadvantaged youth and young adults. It operates to keep kids in school and out of trouble, with the goal to provide skills that help them in a future workplace or college.
Five programs serves youth and young adults, including Introduction to Woodworking Outreach Program, After-School Entrepreneurial Woodworking Program, Summer Job Program (in partnership with Voyage ofWilmington and Step Up Wilmington), Apprenticeship Program, and Skilled Trades Program.
