WILMINGTON — A portion of a street in downtown Wilmington will close starting Thursday and remain shuttered for a week. Crews are scheduled to make improvements to an intersection.
A release from the NC Department of Transportation noted a lane of U.S. 17 Business — South 3rd Street, near Dock — will close in each direction beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday. Traffic will reopen a week later at the same time, not withstanding any weather delays.
Crews will repave the roadway and add a crosswalk. Work is expected to take place on the project until fall 2022.
A median extension will be installed to ensure extra safety measures are in place for both drivers and contractors. Drivers will be detoured to Orange, South 4th, Market and South 2nd streets, and are encouraged to proceed with caution and remain alert in the work zone areas.
