NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A man allegedly robbed the Family Dollar on Castle Hayne Road with a gun Saturday, then returned to the store with the cash, telling the clerk “I can’t do this.”
According to a New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office release, Richard William Dunn, 63, was hanging around the register just after 1 p.m. The store clerk reportedly asked if she could assist him, at which point Dunn is accused of pulling a handgun from his pocket and demanding money. He walked out the door, then came back later and laid the money on the counter, the sheriff’s office reported.
Deputies found Dunn soon after trying to get into his car and took him to the New Hanover County Detention Facility. He received a $75,000 secure bond for robbery with a dangerous weapon.
