Brunswick announces new deputy director of emergency management

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Brunswick County Fire has elected David McIntire as its new deputy director of emergency management. With nearly 30 years of experience, McIntire has served Brunswick County’s Emergency Services Department since November 2021.

Prior to his position in Brunswick, McIntire served in Gainesville, Florida, as the emergency manager. He also was a lieutenant paramedic from 2007-2017, a driver-operator paramedic from 2005-2007, and a firefighter-paramedic from 1999-2005. 

McIntire will oversee all emergency management plans in Brunswick County involving man-made and/or natural disasters. He will be responsible for emergency management responses involving the Duke Energy Brunswick Nuclear Plant as well, and will ensure all communication sources are intact, obtainable and up-to-date. 

While serving the City of Gainesville, McIntire was recognized for accomplishments addressing homelessness during disasters, overseeing emergency operations regarding hurricanes, creating an emergency management program for the city, and organizing major improvement efforts.

McIntire has served as a certified firefighter, fire officer III, and as a Floridian fire service instructor III. He has an associate’s degree of science in emergency medical services, a bachelor’s degree of applied science in public safety administration from St. Petersburg College, and a North Carolina and Florida paramedic certification. 

McIntire recently graduated from the Emergency Management Institute’s National Emergency Management Advanced Academy.
