WPD investigating ‘targeted’ shooting near Market Street

WILMINGTON — Wilmington police are investigating after a man arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound Wednesday.

Monteri Junious, 22, was in stable but critical condition when he reached Cape Fear Hospital. He was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

Police units were dispatched to the area where Junious is believed to have been struck — Market Street and Gingerwood Road — just after 5 p.m. in reference to shots fired into a car. Upon arrival, officers could not locate a vehicle or victim, according to a Wilmington Police Department news release.

Junious showed up at the hospital “moments later” in a car with a bullet hole on the passenger side.

“The victim appears to have been targeted and was being followed. This was an isolated incident,” WPD reported of its preliminary investigation.
