
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — New Hanover County Schools is closing buildings Friday due to the predicted inclement weather. Students will learn from home.
Friday’s after-school activities and athletics are canceled.
Students will receive any materials or assignments needed for Friday before the end of the school day Thursday.
The National Weather Service is predicting a major winter storm is on the horizon for the southeast. Freezing rain is expected to start Friday and continue into Saturday morning, posing dangerous icy conditions on roads and possible power outages. At this time, there is also a chance of sleet and snow Saturday, toward the end of the storm.
Brunswick County Schools and Pender County Schools have also announced closures. Pender County Schools students will learn virtually and are receiving instructions for their remote day in class Thursday.
