WILMINGTON — For the next 10 days, Wilmington Fire Department will be accepting applications to recruit firemen.
The job, an entry level position, includes group health and life insurance, NC government retirement, 401K, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, as well as tuition reimbursement.
The current recruitment period runs through Jan. 23.
“As a fire chief, the recruit academy is an exciting opportunity for me to see the future of our organization begin their careers,” interim fire chief Steve Mason said in a press release. “Watching them progress, learn, and grow during the academy is inspiring as each class brings new talents, perspectives, and experiences that will make our department stronger and more diverse.”
According to the release, strong candidates will have a stellar work ethic, are responsible, motivated, determined, and value teamwork. Experience or specialized education are not requirements to apply.
The firefighter recruit academy pays successful applicants and trains them for six months to learn the ins and outs of the job. Upon completion, recruits begin shift work, 24-hours on a rotating schedule.
Recruit Academy 2022 is slated to begin in April. To learn more, head to www.wilmingtonnc.gov/fire.
