Students rerouted home Tuesday, sheriff’s office investigates ‘potential threat’ at Shallotte Middle School

UPDATE: Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday evening they had identified the person behind the “potential threat” at Shallotte Middle School earlier in the day. The person is a student of the school and a juvenile petition is pending.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Tuesday morning, before school even opened and staff and students were on site, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a potential threat to Shallotte Middle School.

Brunswick County Schools sent out a notice that all buses were rerouted to a safe location. All parents who normally drop off kids on the school campus are asked to keep their children at home until they get a call clearing the return to school.

No staff or students are currently in danger, according to the district.

No other information has been provided; the district said they’ll update with more information as soon as it is available.
