North Carolina’s favorite doughnut shop announced last spring it would give away a free doughnut a day, through the end of the year, to anyone who showed a vaccination card. Now, it’s doubling up on its offer.
From Aug. 30 through Sept. 5. customers will receive two free doughnuts when flashing their cards. It’s part of Krispy Kreme’s “Show Your Heart” campaign, in an effort to incentivize vaccinations.
The offer includes a traditional glazed doughnut, as well as a glazed heart-shaped doughnut and is valid at all U.S. locations. Customers can redeem the offer at Krispy Kreme drive-thrus or when dining in the establishments during the seven-day promotion.
Only vaccination cards — not stickers — will be accepted to prove status. The corporation assured its employees will not document or photograph the cards.
To date, Krispy Kreme has given away 2.5 million doughnuts as part of its vaccination promotion from earlier in the spring.
The doughnut giant was founded by Vernon Rudolph in 1937 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and has grown from one small storefront into a corporation that operates over 700 stores worldwide.
