WILMINGTON –– Three Wilmington Police Department officers were attacked Thursday night in two unrelated incidents.
One was the result of a disturbance at the McDonald’s on Market Street. A man was refusing to leave and punched an officer on the left side of the neck as law enforcement was attempting to escort him out, according to a news release from the department.
Cedric Adkins, 60, of Wilmington, was arrested and charged with assault on law enforcement officers, possession of drug paraphernalia and second-degree trespassing.
Also on Thursday night, a man assaulted law enforcement officers who were responding to an EMS call for a possible cardiac arrest on 15th Street.
Keith Simmons, 36, attacked the paramedics as they were rendering aid and assaulted two WPD officers.
Simmons was arrested and taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for clearance. He is facing charges of assault on an officer, assault on emergency personnel, communicating threats and probation violation.
Simmons is currently at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office detention center being held under a $75,000 bond for the Thursday night’s offenses and a $100,000 bond for a probation violation.
