BRUNSWICK COUNTY — The N.C. Department of Transportation, Brunswick County officials and a North Carolina contract company announced completion of cleaning up an Ocean Isle private neighborhood and surrounding areas from last month’s tornado.
The EF3 tore through Ocean Ridge Plantation and nearby areas on Feb. 15. Cleanup crews removed debris, including tress and limbs, plus cleaned up state-maintained roads.
“In all, about 4,945 tons, or 24,728 cubic yards, was collected,” a release from the N.C. DOT noted. “To put that in perspective, the debris would have covered a football field and would be about 14 feet tall. About 3,500 tons, or 17,300 cubic yards, came from the Ocean Ridge Plantation neighborhood.”
