Second arrest made in Dec. 30 murder

WILMINGTON – Police have arrested a second suspect they were searching for following a murder late last month.

Rebecca Nicole Phillips, 25, of Wilmington was taken into custody in Greenville Monday afternoon. She is charged with first-degree murder.

The victim, 26-year-old Tywan Shaquille Parsley, was found dead on the scene by officers at 1024 S. 13th St. around 3 a.m. on Dec. 30. His death marked the 22nd homicide for the city in 2020.

Phillips is being held without bond at the New Hanover County Jail, according to a Wilmington Police Department news release.

Police also arrested a 16-year-old male from Wilmington on Saturday for Parsley’s murder. Found in Kinston, he is now being held without bond and will go through the juvenile justice process, according to a Wilmington Police Department news release.
