Woman killed, man shot in late-night shooting on Christmas Day

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a homicide and attempted murder that occurred at 12:30 a. m. on Christmas Day.

WPD responded to a Shotspotter notification near Kenwood and Market Street early Friday morning. Officers found a driver, 31-year-old Jalisa Bellamy, and a 35-year-old male passenger, had crashed into a utility pole after both were shot.

Bellamy was transported to the hospital where she died from her injuries. The male passenger was treated and released.

WPD is asking anyone with footage of the incident to contact (910)-343-3609.

“If you have information about the shooting, please call or use the Wilmington, NC PD app for anonymous methods. You can also text an anonymous tip to 847411 (tip411) by including the keyword WPDNC,” WPD shared in its press release.

Bellamy’s family requested her photo be included in the release.
