OKI pier, Southport ferry closes due to weather

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Windy conditions and rainy weather have led to two area operations closing early Thursday.

Travel on the Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry us suspended due to high winds, with gusts reaching 21 miles per hour, as of 2 p.m. on April 11.

In nearby Oak Island, the town pier is also closing at 3 p.m.

Conditions are expected to improve overnight and operations will return. The pier announced it will open normal hours by Friday.
