Cedar Grove principal named Brunswick school district administrator

imgresThe Brunswick County Board of Education has readjusted the district’s administrative cabinet.

Under the recommendation of Superintendent Dr. Edward Pruden, the board agreed last week to move Helen Davis, current executive director of elementary education, to the position of executive director of student services. That position was left vacant after Joyce Beatty retired this summer.

“Ms. Davis brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this important role which supports school nurses, school social workers, homeless education, wellness services…and homebound education,” according to a press release from the district.

Davis will also serve as the central services ombudsman– the first responder to parent and community calls.

The school board has expanded Davis’ previous position to include both elementary and middle school education, a role that Cedar Grove Middle School principal Rhonda Benton will fill.

Assistant Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Deanne Meadows will continue to supervise high school education.

“Specifically, the plan addresses two critical needs of the system: leadership for the student services division and a balance in supervision of secondary education,” Brunswick County Schools spokeswoman Jessica Swencki said. “The realignment plan utilizes existing positions to accomplish these goals.”

Superintendent Dr. Edward Pruden said he is confident this realignment will balance administrative supervision and support in the system.

“Both Ms. Davis and Ms. Benton are proven educational leaders who will bring great value to their new positions and to our school system,” Pruden noted.

The realignment plan will become effective Wednesday, Oct. 15. The district will then begin a search to replace Benton at Cedar Grove Middle.
