WILMINGTON — A downtown bridge will be closed nightly for a week, starting Monday, Sept. 14, to prepare for repairs on a downtown bridge.

The Front Street Bridge closes from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and will affect lane closures between Hanover and Red Cross streets. A flagger will be on site controlling traffic to allow northbound and southbound vehicles to alternate across the bridge.

After a week of preparatory work, the Front Street Bridge will undergo longer term structure repairs. It’s expected to close for six months starting Thursday, Sept. 24; the city will have an adjacent pedestrian walkway located on the east side of the bridge open for most of the project. Vehicles will be able to detour onto Nutt Street or use any of the adjacent streets in the downtown grid, according to city officials.
