Governor Stein offers up to $25,000 for information on 2024 murder

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Governor Josh Stein announced Sept. 14 that the state is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information on the person or persons responsible for the murder of Don’Tae De’Charles Nixon. 

Nixon, 31, was killed in a shooting on Dec. 3, 2024 on Stoney Road in Castle Hayne after cops responded to a call just before 2 a.m. Nixon was found dead in his vehicle, which he had just stepped into to go to work at UPS as a package handler.

“We must use every tool at our disposal to pursue justice for victims,” Stein said. “I urge North Carolinians who have information about this case to contact local law enforcement and help us hold Don’Tae Nixon’s murderer accountable.”
