BURGAW — Residents who want to learn more about a playground coming to one Pender County community is welcome to attend an open house this week.

On Thursday, Sept. 17, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., the Maple Hill Volunteer Fire Department, located at 115 Old Maple Hill Road N., welcomes residents to share input on design plans for a new playground in the Maple Hill community. In addition to asking questions, they can give insight on features, accessibility, play elements and other desired amenities.

“This is an opportunity for the Maple Hill community to help shape a space that will belong to them,” Pender County Parks and Recreation Director Zach White said in a release. “We want to hear from the families, neighbors and children who will use this playground so we can create a place that reflects the community and gives families a space to gather, play and make memories for years to come.”

The North Carolina General Assembly helped fund the playground, with $350,000, to pay for equipment in the Long Creek and Maple Hill communities and park enhancements, such as ground resurfacing.
