BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Due to current and projected weather forecasts, as well as reduced system demands, Brunswick County has moved from a Stage 2 Mandatory Water Conservation Alert to a Stage 1 Voluntary Water Conservation Alert.
Brunswick County is still classified as an Extreme Drought county according to the most recent update from the North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council on Aug. 27, 2026. However, encouraging trends in weather forecasts, source water amounts, and overall daily water usage have adequately reduced peak demands for water from Brunswick County’s available production and distribution capacity.
Under Stage 1, all water usage adjustments become voluntary. Brunswick County water system customers are requested to make voluntary adjustments to their water usage habits and to follow the recommended irrigation schedule.
The voluntary automatic irrigation schedule applies to automatic sprinkler systems for residential and commercial lawn and landscape irrigation. Water customers are asked to only water lawns and landscaping with automatic irrigation systems (spray irrigation, drip irrigation, etc.) up to one inch of water per week, between the hours of 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. on their designated days.
Per the recommended schedule, properties with odd-numbered addresses (ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9) and non-addressed facilities may irrigate anytime during the following 8-hour periods:
- From 8 p.m. on Tuesday through 4 a.m. Wednesday
- From 8 p.m. on Thursday through 4 a.m. Friday
- From 8 p.m. on Saturday through 4 a.m. Sunday
Properties with even-numbered addresses (ending in 2, 4, 6, 8, 0) may irrigate anytime during the following 8-hour periods:
- From 8 p.m. on Wednesday through 4 a.m. Thursday
- From 8 p.m. on Friday through 4 a.m. Saturday
- From 8 p.m. on Sunday through 4 a.m. Monday
This voluntary irrigation schedule applies to irrigation for residential and commercial lawn and landscaping, athletic fields, golf courses that do not use private groundwater wells or reclaimed water.
