NORTH CAROLINA — As the unofficial end to summer closes in, the state highway patrol agency is launching a two-week campaign to thwart impaired driving. Labor Day Booze It & Lose It runs from Aug. 31 through Sept. 13.
The N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program will have increased patrols and check points set up during this time as more travelers take to roadways for the Labor Day holiday.
“We are urging everyone to plan ahead and choose a sober ride home from any celebration involving alcohol or other impairing substances,” NCGHSP Director Mark Ezzell said in a release. “Our partners in law enforcement will be out in force to keep roads safe and stop those who put others at risk. Safety remains our number one priority.”
According to statistics provided by the highway safety program, 2025 had 1,528 people killed in crashes on North Carolina roadways, including 378 deaths in alcohol-related crashes. Booze It and Lose It hopes to prevent impaired driving and keep roads safer.
NCGHSP encourages all drivers to celebrate responsibly, buckle up, follow the speed limit and never drive while impaired. Utilize a ride-share platform or a designated driver instead.
