WILMINGTON — Two men charged in connection with a home invasion on Halloween have been handed prison sentences.
Selwyn Davis and Alston Allen, both 19 years old, pled guilty to robbery with a dangerous weapon and first-degree burglary on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026 in New Hanover County Superior Court. They each received 5-to-7-year active sentences.
According to authorities, officers responded to Kerr Crossing Apartments around 11:30 p.m. on October 31, 2025, after receiving a 911 call reporting that a man was injured. The victim told them that he had been bloodied and beaten with a blunt object after masked men forced their way into his apartment while he slept. The men stole his watch, a safe, cash and marijuana from the residence before fleeing.
Detectives were led to four suspects, including Davis and Allen. Surveillance footage obtained from a camera near the victim’s residence recorded three masked suspects forcing his door open with a crowbar and entering. Two of the men appeared to be armed with handguns.
Footage from another apartment complex later captured the men returning in Alston’s car to an apartment there. Cell phone records, videos and photographs provided valuable evidence that linked the men to the crime. Subsequent searches of the suspects’ vehicles and apartments uncovered other items relevant to the case, authorities say.
Investigators believe that the attack was gang related.
Two other men charged in the incident, Torrelle Shaw-Johnson and Kenneth Broadus, are scheduled for trial in March of 2027.
