OAK ISLAND — The Town of Oak Island Public Works Department will be fogging for mosquitos Wednesday, July 29 and Thursday, July 30.
Weather permitting, fogging operations will begin at 6 p.m. each day. Operations may be rescheduled or cancelled on short notice as they rely on immediate weather and wind forecasts.
On Wednesday, zones one and two — all areas West of East 40 Street — will be treated. On Thursday, zones three and four — all areas East of East 41 Street and Mainland — will undergo fogging.
Fogging is meant to treat growing mosquito populations. All treatment is done in accordance with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
The Town of Oak Island said in a statement that the mist is expected to dissipate through treated areas quickly, ranging between five to 30 minutes. The town asks that individuals do not approach the Mosquito Management vehicle or make attempts to stop drivers to ask questions.
There are treatment exemptions for verified Apiarists — beekeepers — who have registered through the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Apiary Program.
