Wilmington Fire Department recruit application now open

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Fire Department is now accepting applications for firefighter recruits through July 22.

The department says it is seeking “motivated individuals who are ready to begin a career dedicated to serving the community, protecting lives, and responding when people need help most.”

Recruits earn a starting salary of $58,052 upon graduation from the fire academy and receive a competitive benefits package designed to support their health, financial security, and professional growth.

Benefits and additional compensation opportunities include:

  • – Health, dental, and life insurance
  • – North Carolina Retirement System
  • – Paid leave
  • – Short- and long-term disability
  • – Onsite City Health Clinic
  • – Free commercial gym access
  • – Tuition reimbursement up to $5,000 annually
  • – Up to $2,000 annually for college education pay
  • – Up to $1,200 annually for bilingual proficiency pay
  • – Up to $1,200 annually for special teams participation

Minimum qualifications include:

  • – At least 18 years of age
  • – U.S. citizen
  • – Physically and mentally fit
  • – High school diploma or GED
  • – Valid North Carolina driver’s license
