
WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Fire Department is now accepting applications for firefighter recruits through July 22.
The department says it is seeking “motivated individuals who are ready to begin a career dedicated to serving the community, protecting lives, and responding when people need help most.”
Recruits earn a starting salary of $58,052 upon graduation from the fire academy and receive a competitive benefits package designed to support their health, financial security, and professional growth.
Benefits and additional compensation opportunities include:

- – North Carolina Retirement System
- – Paid leave
- – Short- and long-term disability
- – Onsite City Health Clinic
- – Free commercial gym access
- – Tuition reimbursement up to $5,000 annually
- – Up to $2,000 annually for college education pay
- – Up to $1,200 annually for bilingual proficiency pay
- – Up to $1,200 annually for special teams participation
Minimum qualifications include:
- – At least 18 years of age
- – U.S. citizen
- – Physically and mentally fit
- – High school diploma or GED
- – Valid North Carolina driver’s license
