NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The state has approved New Hanover County Board of Elections’ appointment of Eric Navagh to serve as director, effective July 1.

The appointment comes two weeks after the local board unanimously voted on Navagh’s appointment on June 16. Navagh served as the interim elections deputy director since former director DeNay Harris was placed on paid leave and subsequently terminated.

Navagh was hired in July 2025 as the elections logistics coordinator.

“Our team’s focus continues to be on the very important work of administering accurate, safe and secure elections for our citizens,” Navagh said in a press release from the county.
