WILMINGTON — Novant made a trifecta of announcements this week about new leadership in varied regions, including coastal North Carolina. Novant Health NHRMC President Laurie Whalin will become senior vice president and regional president of the coastal region, while also continuing to serve her current role.
Whalin, with doctor of pharmacy degree, has 15 years of leadership experience, having formerly served as president and chief operating officer of Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center and vice president of clinical services at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She also serves on the New Hanover County Health and Human Services Board of Directors and the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina Board of Directors.

Formerly, Ernie Bovio served as president of Novant Health’s coastal region and NHMRC until he departed for UNC Health earlier this year.
“By aligning regional, clinical and enterprise leaders more closely, we are creating stronger connections and enabling agility across our system to drive remarkable, patient-centered care, ultimately strengthening how we serve our patients and communities,” John Gizdic, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Novant Health, said in a release. Gizdic was the former CEO of NHRMC.
In addition to Whalin’s new role, Novant also promoted other senior vice president and regional presidents, Chris Bowe of the Charlotte region and Alisha Hutchens of the Triad region.
