NEW HANOVER COUNTY — New Hanover County Schools has announced its SUN Meals To-Go program providing free, nutritious meal packs to children and teens throughout the summer months.

Through the USDA’s SUN Meals To-Go program, NHCS School Nutrition Services will offer free weekly meal packs to all children and teens ages 18 and under regardless of school enrollment or income status — enrollees do not need to be NHCS students to participate. Meals are also available to individuals over age 18 with disabilities who are enrolled in a public school program.

Each meal pack includes five days’ worth of breakfast and lunch, including milk, for every registered child. Meals will rotate on a two-week basis. They will be distributed every Thursday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. beginning June 18 through Aug. 6. The pickup location is Holly Shelter Middle School, 3921 Roger Haynes Drive.

Families interested in participating must complete the Summer Meal Pack Order Form by Friday, May 8, 2026. The form is available online and is required to receive meals.

A parent or guardian listed on the pre-order form must pick up the meals; however, children do not need to be present at pickup. Families should plan accordingly, as meal boxes may weigh approximately 15 pounds or more and include perishable items requiring refrigeration or freezing.

In addition to meal packs, families may also benefit from the USDA’s Sun Bucks program, which provides a one-time $120 grocery benefit per eligible child to help purchase nutritious foods during the summer. More information about eligibility and enrollment is available through the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
