Man dies after being stabbed near the mall

WILMINGTON — A 47-year-old male has died from his injuries after being stabbed in a wooded area near Independence Mall on Wednesday.

The Wilmington Police Department are investigating the incident they say happened in the woods near the 1800 block of Independence Boulevard. The roadway between Oleander Drive and Canterbury Road was closed off due to the WPD Criminal Investigation Division on the scene.

Shortly after 4 p.m., officers responded following reports of the assault. Upon arrival to the parking lot of the mall, they located an individual suffering from injuries consistent with a stabbing; the victim was transported to Novant Health NHRMC but died from his injuries.
