Sheriff’s office investigates suicide in downtown parking deck

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A 74-year-old male who fell from the Nutt Street parking deck has died in what law enforcement believe is a suicide.

New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office have reported the death of Thomas Broffman from April 6.

At almost 2 p.m. Monday, Broffman allegedly fell from the deck, with students from Cape Fear Community College witnessing the incident. According to the sheriff’s office, they rendered aid until EMS arrived. Broffman, however, succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation remains active.
